Iodine is vital for hair growth. Sheep farmers long ago found that vegetation which contained no iodine due to iodine-deficient soil, adversely affecting wool growth in sheep. Similarly, our hair needs iodine to grow.

Iodine is synthetically added to table salt, anyway, this way is not very well assimilated in the body and can therefore cause iodine overload. An excess of iodine in the body may negatively affect the thyroid.

It is best to use non-iodized salt and get your iodine from natural sources of food. These include seaweed, salmon, seafood, beans, molasses, eggs, potatoes, skin on, watercress and garlic.

One of the most difficult to get to add to our diet, which is vital for hair growth nutrients, trace mineral is silica. Silica is a form of silicon and is the second most abundant element in the earth's crust, after oxygen ranks first.

The earth provides everything we need for health, and the silicon is so abundant, it would seem that there should not be any problem with silica deficiency.

Unfortunately, trace minerals are rare in Western diets because our food is processed and our lands are impoverished with very frequent chemical treatments, which makes the minerals lost.

Silica is vital to strengthen the hair, and although it does not necessarily help stop the shedding of your hair follicle, it will help to stop the breach. It works by stimulating the metabolism and cell formation, which slows the aging process.

Foods that are rich in silica are rice, oats, lettuce, parsnips, asparagus, onion, strawberry, cabbage, cucumber, leek, sunflower seeds, celery, rhubarb, cauliflower and kale.

Note that many of these foods, particularly rice, are a large part of Asian diets and Asians tend to have stronger and healthier hair.

Be sure to find and consume all food sources mentioned above to grow organically, as this is vital to get the minerals that are not usually present in the lands of the West and therefore are not present in foods.

Additionally, these foods should be eaten without cooking, or in the case of rice, without washing, since minerals can go to cooking or washing.
